A Month Without Smartphone

DSC_0002

Life with ups and down.
Life with good and bad.
All in one package

After no MacBook Air (someone stole it last August!) and then accidentally broke my smartphone, for very few days I was a bit lost without them. However, it was not for long. Instead worry and unable to work, I tend to see it as life experiment.

This is a post of “A month without smartphone”, which not a trial but an experience (OK I have spare laptop from office which is nice, an Asus Zenbook UX303LA). After all, I see this month as new opportunity toContinue reading “A Month Without Smartphone”

Myanmar: Mandalay in my mind | Mandalay dalam pandanganku

Mandalay Palace in the distance
Istana Mandalay dari kejauhan

Recently few friends travel to Myanmar either for vacation or work. After a couple of time to Yangon I promised to myself either going to Bagan and Mandalay. Afterwards I chose Mandalay for my trip before leaving to Bangkok and then Jakarta. What I can remember from this city is the Mandalay Hill, Kuthodaw Pagoda, and Mandalay Palace. Continue reading “Myanmar: Mandalay in my mind | Mandalay dalam pandanganku”

Make you days count everyday

DSCN0125

We all want to do so much: take on every request that people email us, complete our neverending list of tasks and projects, help everyone, travel everywhere, learn a ton of new skills, read every book and watch every good film, be the perfect partner and parent and friend …

And yet, we can’t possibly do it all.

There isn’t enough time in the day, nor do we have the attention bandwidth to devote to everything. Even if we were perfectly disciplined, we couldn’t possibly get to even half of what we want to do. Just as with eating, where our eyes are bigger than our stomachs … our hopes are bigger than our actual bandwidths.

So I say, give up on trying to do it all. Simplify. Don’t try to be perfect. Don’t try to have the most perfect life you can create.

Instead, make your days count.

Kalimantan: Walking with Orangutan at Tanjung Puting

Why travel to nature when already work with nature?

That’s the question that people always asked when I have holiday. I have to be honest living as a environmental consultant as I always traveling to a place that maybe people never heard and make people envy. However, behind that shining fact I always miss my relax time in touristy place just like normal people. Reconnecting with nature is always be my first option for personal travel. Mountains, waterfalls and beaches are always be my interest to detox my clouded mind and wash away my spirit. Another alternative is also visiting national park to meet my interest on nature and science.

The Best Smartphone for Fieldwork

DSCF6704

Nowadays, a smartphone is crucially needed during my fieldwork. I used to stick with my Samsung Galaxy Note. However, in the beginning of 2015, I started to use Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. This blogpost is not about smartphones but what kind of criteria and apps that make it the best smartphone for fieldwork.Continue reading “The Best Smartphone for Fieldwork”

I had special opportunity this year by visiting Myanmar for work. You cannot imagine this trip 10 years ago when the whole country still untouchable by outside world. When you had enough and become a travel bore

20150428_165232

There is a time when you had enough with traveling. You can see the sign when lazy to pack and do all travel stuff. What kind of syndrome is this? It is a sign when you have traveling burnout. When this happened, I am seriously taken more staycation or work at home instead.

How Many Camera You Need in Life?

DSCF6687

I am embraced the concept of minimalism so the answer would be only one. Eventhough during my field work it would be tons of hassle with all my field gadgets but my Fujifilm X10 never let me down. I have rethinking to have my second generation camera but for now I would stay a while with my camera for the last 3 years. Continue reading “How Many Camera You Need in Life?”
