The Conservationist who writes blog

DSCF4284

So what kind of blogger are you?

As you have seen on my profile, I have background in biological science and conservation + natural resource management work. Some friends have been asking about my blog activities for the last one year. I am not a travel writer and obviously not a 100% travel blogger too in the same time. I guess I need to underline what kind of blogger I am. I have many interests such as traveling, photography, social media, creativity, and popular science.

Penang: Welcome to Strait of Malacca

DSCF4013

I visited Penang recently through Singapore. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in historical of Strait of Mallacca. Honestly, I am looking for more cultural experience than nature sightseeing for sure if anyone asked. Sadly I didn’t make it birdwatching in Penang Hill due to unfortunate weather. This trip is sort of my first experience as solo traveler because many times I go traveling with friends. Based on my view over 3D2N, Penang is very friendly and accommodating for solo and women traveler like me.

For Any Scholarship Seekers

If finding scholarship is merely a job then I would be a scholarship seekers.

It feels too long since I was graduated from my first degree and lately my postgraduate degree. However, before you enter the ‘question’ better you ask yourself first. Because sometimes we forget the reason why we pursue higher education.

[Notes] RSPO Remediation and Compensation Procedures related to Land Clearance without Prior HCV assessment

I attended RSPO outreach meeting last Friday on RSPO Remediation and Compensation Procedures related to Land Clearance without Prior HCV assessment. Just a quick review on the meeting, RSPO remediation and compensation has two different procedures and respectively must be treated differently although there is chance both occurred in the same location. The compensation liability depends on year establishment, certification status, and membership based (with special notes for RSPO member would be penalised more than not member if found non-compliances). There are 3 main points in the RSPO Remediation and Compensation Procedures that need to be highlighted from the 13 points stated in whole procedures:Continue reading “[Notes] RSPO Remediation and Compensation Procedures related to Land Clearance without Prior HCV assessment”

Papua: Land of Betel Nut | Negeri Pinang

DSCF2087

Pinang fruit or Areca Nut which mainly said as Betel Nut is often chewed as wrapped in betel leaves/fruit and poured it with chalk. There is unique relationship between Papua people and Pinang as far I can see. I thought only elders Dayak people in Kalimantan chewed them a lot but here in Papua from young to elders they munching them all day! It seems very addictive like cigarettes! You almost can find people selling pinang in every street corner like two ladies above who I met on the way to Jayapura. For $1 or Rp 10,000,- you can have 10 pinangs, 5 betel fruits, and chalk as you like :DContinue reading “Papua: Land of Betel Nut | Negeri Pinang”

CIFOR Forest Asia Photo Competition

My Precious Collection

My Precious Collection

Location: Bulungan, East Kalimantan, Indonesia

Dayak Punan family show their The Great Argus (Argusianus argus) feather collection. Special snare was used by this Dayak family to catch this cryptic pheasant species which famously spectacular, always heard, and seldom seen. As one of a local tribe in East Kalimantan, Dayak Punan still practices hunting and gathering also sometimes slash-and-burn farming. The pheasant presence itself is highly threatened by hunting and forest degradation where most forest in Kalimantan has been converted into oil palm plantation, human settlement, mining area, and agriculture land.

Borneo: The Mushroom of Kalimantan | Jejamuran Kalimantan

DSCF7871

I love taking mushroom pictures! They are awesome macro objects like bats with various colour, shape, size and diversity :). I did not realised I have taken many pictures of them since last year in Kalimantan. Maybe the results not even close to Taylor Lockwood professional photos, my mushroom photo mentor, but for now I just love seeing them on my screen.
