[NOTES]: Moratorium Workshop in Indonesia’s Primary Natural Forest and Peatland

Venue: Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, 16 May 2013

First of all, All the views expressed on this blog are entirely my own, not those of any other person or organization. OK this workshop was most likely attended by government officials with 60 participants in total including press media, NGO, university, and company. Three days before workshop, The Presidential Instruction No. 6/2013 was issued to extend Indonesia moratorium which suspend any new license issuance and the opening of primary forests and peatlands until 13 May 2015. It was also called as Moratorium II which apparently has many similarities with the first moratorium regulation.

Sang Pelopor: Peranan Dr. SH Kooders dalam Sejarah Perlindungan Alam di Indonesia

By Pandji Yudistira (MoFor)

It’s a history and biography of Dr. SH Kooders, a Bandung-born Dutch botanist who pioneered the establishment of associations of natural conservationist (Nederlandsch Indische Vereeniging tot Natuurbescherming) in Indonesia. This association was founded in Bogor, 22th July 22 1912 and then proposed Natuurmonument Ordonnantie (Act Natural Monument/Nature Reserves) to The Dutch East Indies Governor General that lead to designation of 55 Natuurmonument (Natural Monument) all over Indonesia. Through this book we can read Kooders’ message that an independent association could affect development of conservation and government with initiative and motivation.Continue reading “[Notes]: Book Discussion 4 Conservation Writers”

Padang: Culinary + Padang = Rendang

Image

Traveling means another culinary experience. Traveling means meeting new people. After all I love eating new experiences. What does it means? You can see it all on the photos I took below. Anyway I always thought Padang meals all about Rendang, meat or vegetable with chili sauce and coconut floss. But after this Padang ‘Rendang’ Trip, my view to Padang culinary a little bit different.Continue reading “Padang: Culinary + Padang = Rendang”

20130330_080025

I am probably gonna say that Padang is a boring city. Well that would kinda upset Minang people though. But it’s totally true for big city girl like me, this city is so 70s and 80s. People seems wanna stay here because cannot move on from reality it’s been year 2-0-1-3.

Padang: Sikuai Island, The Deserted Island

DSCF4760

If you like adventures maybe you will like Sikuai Island. This island is left by most tourists because there is no island management and most facilities are broke down. At the time I got there with my friend, it was just us and 3 islanders. No ferry to take us there so we have to rent boat for IDR 800,000 per day (exclude gasoline & snorkeling equipment) but cover the entering ticket and fresh welcome coconuts (not only one but two!). My boatman was a great host along this trip. For you who want to get adventure to this island you can contact me more further.Continue reading “Padang: Sikuai Island, The Deserted Island”

Padang: Welcome to Padang

Image

I went backpacking with my 25 Liter daypack with Indri to Padang. Consider it a minimalist and light traveling because it’s only a 3-days trip. Anyhow I am pretty tired carrying my 60 Liter rucksack go-and-back to the airport and hotel like I do usually. Got my ticket – which we already bought since 3 months ago – downloaded into my Galaxy Notes (I hate printing tickets! Less paper much better).Continue reading “Padang: Welcome to Padang”

What do you want to say to this little creature?

Image

Mom left me and were killed by hunters few months ago. The hunters then took me to the village and fed me with rice and vegetables. It is great that they are not killing me but probably they will sell me when I am a bit bigger. I hate the fact that they put me into this little cage because it’s so noisy. It’s not like in the forest where I can eat Durians with Mom without fear.

Look at me …

Black and White

Wildlife is always be an interesting object to be captured. Black and white make strong pictures for making it more dramatical. I feel that with black and white you can give more details and stories behind all your pictures. I am trying to take pictures and minimised editing for B & W pics nowadays. We’ll see what happened next.

Hello again after a while 2013

cheetah

So after been a while not writing in this blog, I start to make it a little more simple. It would be a little bit adventure with photos and bits and bobs. I have been with new job for almost 5 months with so much learning and studying to do. It is great to see how it goes along with my career. Well when I am not in the mood of doing some work a fella came to me and say hello. Some of them is Cheetah! Say hello to Cheetah! He NOT she although seems he’s pregnant! He’s just a very big and furry male cat in the office. O really there is a cat in your office? Well yeah I think so :p

Bogor, The Rainy City

Early September

It’s been two days since I arrive in this city. City where my belated Father was born. City where most of my family from my father side lives. I am not quite surprised when I got an offer to work in Bogor because I know one day I will stay there, I don’t know why.

Although it is quite sunny during the day and mosquitoes come after dark and also dusk, the weather today just fine. Even it is quite good with breeze and rain in the evening. Sometimes it is very warm during the evening but it is okay for me.Continue reading “Bogor, The Rainy City”

Borneo: Earth People

A very good example to see the world is meeting them exactly on its own original place. I am here in Kalimantan with the whole natural destruction. Here I am once again see how human torture mother earth. I also see right people and wrong people in this isolated island. But this land seems never sleep with its beauty although destruction surrounds them. There is nothing I can do about it to stop it but I still can reduce the destruction impact and also help people who get the direct impact and depend on its forest.

Maybe it is a job for most conservationists nowadays. Minimising the forest destruction could be the best way nowadays since we cannot evade the destruction around the world.

People in the city sometimes cannot see the whole thing that destruction is really happen here in the world of Borneo. People in the villages also maybe cannot understand why people in the city take down their forest. Dayak Punan, the local tribes here, who I met before really depend on the forest with hunting and maybe planting rice later on. If some people are blaming others because destroying the forest. Why people also cannot blame people with converting land into houses? There is no more land for man to live except vertical area that is why apartment maybe the best solution ever be.

No more water if no more forest. Even no more rain because no rain drops.
